7)  PROOFS

 Ok, we have outlined the major features of my metaphysics: the grand purpose, the levels of consciousness, reincarnation, and karma. Now I would like to explain why I think this belief system is valid, the proofs.

Proofs. There aren’t any proofs.

The definition of a proof is that it makes sense, that it is reproducible and repeatable by others, and can make predictions. Science can do this using measuring tools and mathematics. Scientific predictions are made all the time using materials and mathematics. That is the way cars, cell phones, and rockets work, because how they were constructed lead to repeatable results and the prediction that they will continue to work, for awhile at least. But these are things in the 3 lower levels of consciousness, the mental, emotional, and physical. To recapitulate, the mental provides the plans for the device, the emotional provides the motivation to make it, and the physical are the materials it is made of plus the end result.

When we get to the higher levels of consciousness, not only is there no proof, most would say there isn’t any evidence either—the higher levels being the Source Consciousness (SC), Entity, Energy, and Soul.

Again, the SC is everything, entity level is the subsets of the SC that can be named, the energy is the motivation for the entity to come into existence, and the soul is where the experiences of the entity are captured. And in order for the soul to have experiences, there must be manifestations into the 3 lower levels.

Tapping into the higher levels of consciousness is possible by extreme sickness, psychedelic drugs, and psychic awareness. The problem is that the higher consciousness experiences can’t be proved, there isn’t anything reproducible or repeatable or predictive. Mystics have had these revelations for millennia and some have started new religions based on them. Sick people have near-death-experiences and tell their doctors, who then try to educate them in the nature of the brain making up stories. Psychedelic drugs can get us there, but trying to communicate what is seen to others is problematic.

The basic problem is that words divide. In order to use words, we must talk in terms of categories, subsets of the real experience, and the real experience is so rich that words cannot do it justice. The most descriptive term I have found is “Wow!”. I like what the Maharishi said in the movie “George Harrison”, “music communicates better than words”. Note that I realize that this blog is all words—I can’t play music.

There are people who claim to be psychic. There are many types of psychics, but there are those who are clairvoyant, can know things without seeing them. The researchers test them sometimes with the cards, you know the circle, square, wavy lines, etc. And sure enough, they get a better than random score. But when retested, the ability goes away. Not a good proof.

There is a new book out called “Proof of Heaven” by Eben Alexander. He is a neurosurgeon who has operated on lots of brains and who got a disease which destroyed his own brain, falling into a coma. During that time he experienced the higher consciousness levels for a week, and when he came out of the coma, he was able not only to remember everything that occurred, but also to write a book about it. Fascinating reading. Proof? Evidence perhaps, if you believe him. But not reproducible, repeatable by others, or predictive.

It should be noted that a belief system, any belief system, doesn’t need to be proved, just believed in. It can be totally imaginary, even false, whatever that means. It seems that people who have a belief system believe that it confers on them an advantage that those who don’t believe, don’t have. It is self-congratulatory. And past and recent history is replete with those who have arrived at dates for the end-of-the-world or whatever, predictions, who have somehow gotten the dates or events wrong.

I was going to include “evidence” into this posting, but it should be a separate topic completely, so next.
